Earlier this month, 11-year-old professional skateboarder Sky Brown and her brother Ocean linked up with Rio-based Coletivo Skate Maré to join the Saturday skate classes at Maré Favela Skatepark.

Maré Favela Skatepark was completed in July and provides the Coletivo with a safe place for their weekly skate classes. The Coletivo has been active for over 5 years and uses skateboarding as a means to bringing together youth from enemy favela communities, allowing them to skate in unity.

Sky’s visit was a big success and truly inspiring for the Coletivo. Sky invited the kids from Maré favela to attend an international skate competition in Barra da Tijuca that she was competing in. They got to meet different international pro skaters and witnessed Sky taking 3rd place in the competition. Sky donated her prize money to the Coletivo and the Summer Camp that is planned for July 2020.

We thank Sky for her visit and generosity, and hope to see her again soon at one of our projects!
