The skatepark is a space where people from different backgrounds get to mix with each other. This is the first place where I really feel like is a new chapter for sports in Iraq.

Baghdad has made history with the opening of its first-ever skatepark! Located on the grounds of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in central Baghdad, the skatepark is a groundbreaking space designed to inspire creativity, athleticism, and community engagement.

This free and public skatepark has been developped over five years of collaboration between Make Life Skate Life, Baghdad Skatepark Project, Un Ponte Per, Iraq’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, Suli Skatepark, and other partners. Funding was generously provided by the German and French Embassies, the ISLAH Reparations Project, as well as individual donors.

The park design was created by East by West in collaboration with local skaters and features ramps and obstacles for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skateboarders. Baghdad skatepark reclaims public areas for youth and women, promoting self-expression, and personal growth.
