When reviewing the applications, we quickly realized that because there are so many rad DIY projects out there that deserve support, one award of $1500 wouldn’t be enough.

So we decided to increase our support and add a $500 bonus award. So now, there will be one winner who gets $1500 and a second winner who gets $500.

The 2020, $1500 DIY award goes to...

La Femina, a female build collective from Bogotá, Colombia

The La Femina build crew started just recently and already built a spine and speed bump under a bridge, which was very well received by the local authorities. The collective is now ready to add more ramps such as hubbas, rails and transitions, and turn the entire space under the bridge into a safe and neighborhood friendly skate plaza.

The skaters in Accra, Ghana

With no skatepark in Ghana, the locals decided to get permission from the city to start to build their own skatepark and were recently granted access to a spot under a bridge. Using their own money, the skaters started by building a ledge - which was their first time working with concrete. They want to continue building and hope that the spot will help increase the level of skateboarding in their country and that one day they will be able to turn the spot into a full-blown skatepark.
